“All Netflix members will be able to search for TV shows and movies from their Xbox 360, making it even easier to find something to watch,” Netflix said in a blog post.
Users in the Canada and the U.S., meanwhile, will be able stream Netflix content on their Windows Phone 7 devices. A free app is available now in the Marketplace Video Store. Windows Phone 7 debuts in the U.S. on Nov. 8 with the Samsung Focus.
Netflix arrived in Canada in late September with a $7.99 per month, streaming-only option. During a recent earnings call, Netflix chief executive Reed Hastings said the company was also considering a streaming-only option for the U.S. later this year.
Xbox 360 owners in the U.S. have had the ability to stream Netflix content since fall 2008. Netflix streaming has since extended to the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Wii, as well as Apple TV and iOS devices.
On Monday, Microsoft started rolling out the fall dashboard update for Xbox 360 users, which includes Netflix search, Microsoft said in a blog post. “Experience a streamlined search function making it much easier to find the movies and TV shows you want to watch,” the company said.
